Description
If you have ever wished to be able to use your handheld or mobile GMRS radios to actually talk further in the field while camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, off-grid living, over landing, RV use, or even for your emergency preparedness needs or local CERT activities, you need to consider adding this portable repeater to your kit.
In additional to shipping with an included A/C power supply (that simply plugs into your standard wall outlet when A/C power is available), it can also be powered from an included DC cigarette lighter in your vehicle or in the field from a portable Yeti X power station.
This newer design model RT-97S repeater (FCC approved ID: 2ASNSRT97) features an updated rugged metal case design and includes a DB-9 Female computer connector, allowing use of the included USB to DB-9 computer cable, which can allow you to add an optional external controller for linking purposes to other GMRS repeaters (optional external controller not included).
The RT-97S repeater features 8 GMRS repeater channels, 10 watt UHF input power into the built-in notch duplexer with a full 5 watt of power output (after the incoming signal has been processed through the repeater's built-in notch duplexer).
Retevis built this GMRS repeater inside a rugged cable TV amplifier box, making the RT97S both rugged and water-resistant. Two power adapters come standard with this repeater, a 12V/24V cigarette lighter plug, and a standard 120V AC adapter. A USB programming cable is also included, so you (or us) can program the repeater to your preferred channel and CTCSS/DCS tones of your choice.
The RT97S is ideal for solar-powered repeater sites where both longer range and a small footprint are required. With such a small portable unit, this repeater is perfect for camping trips or any emergency preparedness communication requirements where extended communication range is required.
Inside the repeater case is a small 10W notch duplexer (which separates the incoming GMRS UHF signal from your handheld radio before re-transmitting back out as the GMRS UHF output signal), an LCD display, a DC-DC power adapter, and the integrated radio module itself. Unlike some other cheaper repeater designs, this repeater does NOT simply have 2 handheld radios stuffed inside a plastic case.
To get this repeater on the air, all you need to do is add an external antenna of your choice (we suggest a mobile antenna for maximum portability like this or a base station style antenna for maximum gain like this), your selection of a magnetic mobile antenna mount (if you plan on using the repeater in various portable installations), and 25 feet or 50 feet of high-performance LMR400 UHF style coax feed-line to get your new GMRS repeater on the air with minimum signal loss.
Should you need to use this portable repeater in an off-grid style location (without A/C power) and don't plan on having it plugged into your car, SUV, truck, or van's battery for the duration of your usage, you may also wish to consider any one of our portable power supply units from Goal Zero, such as the Yeti 200X, the Yeti 500X, or any of our larger Yeti X series of units (with up to 6,000 watts of power available).
Should you need a solar panel (perfect for recharging the Yeti X units mentioned above completely off grid), a very popular choice has been the 100W Boulder Briefcase or the lighter and smaller 100W Nomad solar panel unit, but we also offer the entire Goal Zero line of solar panels (rated up to 300 watts).
If you need to step up to higher powered 10W handheld radios (allowing you to reach this repeater from further away), and if your radio requirements are fairly simple, we suggest you look at the 10W TH-UV98 or the 10W RFG-8100 units. If your radio needs are more complex (or you just demand the best and don't like to settle), check out the 999 channel 10W KG-UV9H units.
We can program any of these radios to match your new RT-97S GMRS repeater so that they work correctly right out of the box, saving you enormous amounts of time or headaches. Be sure to add the required number of HT Analog Programming Options for your new handheld 10 watt radios during your checkout.
